Philippines, Away

07-21-2008

Once more I depart for the Philippines. It’s a mixed feeling this time around. I wonder if I’ll see the girl I used to love again. I wonder if it would have worked out if I had lived in the Philippines, if I would have gone to college. I wonder what I’ll say. At the same time, I am eager to see her as well as everybody there. I can’t wait to go backpacking across the wild with a camera again. It’s going to be very fun.

I’ve got a better camera, more gear. Also, got Apple Aperture at home to tweak the photos when I get home. Should be good. I am debating whether I should post the pictures immediately after I take them, or if I should just wait till I get home and edit them all. I love the filters, settings, and adjustments Aperture can manipulate. Aperture over Lightroom, hands down.

I’m also eager to get back into handheld gaming. I usually never use my Nintendo DS at all 10 months a year, and then for the philippines and in the fall I get back into it hardcore. I bought Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2. It’s gonna be good! On that nerdy note I can’t wait for the coming quarters. Starcraft 2, Spore, Red Alert 3, and more coming out before the year ends. I need a job.

Car leaves in an hour. Plane leaves in five. I depart.

ETA Five Days

07-17-2008

It’s five days until I leave for the Philippines. I can’t believe my summer blew by so quickly. I’m going to miss all my friends who are going off to different colleges. I feel so unprepared. I haven’t signed up for classes, nor do I really know what to sign up for. I have a plan and everything but getting it working will be another story indeed. I have my driver’s permit, but not my license yet. It’s funny because I’ll be getting my Philippine Driver’s License before my american one. To think I almost moved to the Philippines for college. Well, U.P. would have been cool I suppose. But then getting a job back here would have been difficult.

I now realize how big a geek I am. Over the last month I’ve been doing pretty much nothing except hang out in my own room. I purchased a very expensive new computer, an Apple iMac (the nicer 20″). I have spent most of my conscious moments on it, talking to friends, editing photos, playing video games, and downloading a ridiculous amount of apps for Mac OS X for specific and odd things. The robot voice still creeps me out but I keep it announcing the time every hour because it’s cool.

I have so much stuff to pack. I haven’t packed any clothes, gadgets, or anything. I’ll probably bring home the Nintendo Wii because that’s always fun with cousins. I borrowed a nice camera from my dad, a Nikon Coolpix 8400. It’s quite wide but the resolution is much better than my dinky pocket camera. I will just have to worry about the effects from wide. I can’t take pictures from the angles I used to. We’ll see what I can do. I got a program for my Mac called Apple Aperture 2.0, an amazing image editing program. It’s hard to believe that I barely open Photoshop anymore (for images at least).

Wow, my first blog post in quite a while. I am starving. I better go eat breakfast / lunch / half of dinner. My body clock may be messed up but my stomach sure won’t let me cheat it of timely meals.
