Feeling a little dark and blue. My color mood is yet again shifting. Expect hue changes across the board, from MySpace to Multiply. Green was cool but a year old for me now. Construction is underway.
Philippines, Away
07-21-2008Once more I depart for the Philippines. It’s a mixed feeling this time around. I wonder if I’ll see the girl I used to love again. I wonder if it would have worked out if I had lived in the Philippines, if I would have gone to college. I wonder what I’ll say. At the same time, I am eager to see her as well as everybody there. I can’t wait to go backpacking across the wild with a camera again. It’s going to be very fun.
I’ve got a better camera, more gear. Also, got Apple Aperture at home to tweak the photos when I get home. Should be good. I am debating whether I should post the pictures immediately after I take them, or if I should just wait till I get home and edit them all. I love the filters, settings, and adjustments Aperture can manipulate. Aperture over Lightroom, hands down.
I’m also eager to get back into handheld gaming. I usually never use my Nintendo DS at all 10 months a year, and then for the philippines and in the fall I get back into it hardcore. I bought Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2. It’s gonna be good! On that nerdy note I can’t wait for the coming quarters. Starcraft 2, Spore, Red Alert 3, and more coming out before the year ends. I need a job.
Car leaves in an hour. Plane leaves in five. I depart.
Network Ad-Hoc Cluster
07-19-200812:15:22 AM Vince: i would love to set up a multi mac configuration where i could multitask and clone computer builds with the same software would automatically delegate among themselves12:15:28 AM Vince: if i run photoshop, illustrator, and flash
12:15:31 AM Vince: in four computers
12:15:35 AM Vince: oen comptuer manages the other three
12:15:39 AM Vince: and each of the rest runs one of the programs
12:15:48 AM kaffinekraze777: hahaha i see
12:15:51 AM Vince: since all the computers will be running the exact same hard drive image
12:16:04 AM Vince: its a solid idea simple enough that i shouldn’t run into flaw
12:16:10 AM Vince: the big issue is writing the software
12:16:11 AM Vince: hahah
12:16:17 AM kaffinekraze777: its like having multiple build ques in an RTS!
12:16:21 AM kaffinekraze777: hmm
12:16:29 AM kaffinekraze777: actually, macs network wonderfully
12:16:32 AM kaffinekraze777: and honestly
12:16:33 AM Vince: right, they do
12:16:38 AM kaffinekraze777: all you technically need to do is
12:16:42 AM Vince: no i mean for a professional the software would probably be easy
12:16:43 AM kaffinekraze777: have 3 idenical comps
12:16:46 AM Vince: but i am no software professional
12:16:47 AM Vince: lol
12:16:48 AM kaffinekraze777: identical*
12:16:50 AM kaffinekraze777: well
12:17:01 AM kaffinekraze777: have the 4th comp running a remote desktop thing
12:17:04 AM Vince: right
12:17:06 AM kaffinekraze777: its not quite what you want
12:17:24 AM Vince: yeah the issue there is feedback delay
12:17:25 AM kaffinekraze777: but it can yield simular reultes
12:17:37 AM kaffinekraze777: yeah, true
12:17:44 AM Vince: the drawback there is that it only really provides efficiency for huge tasks
12:17:54 AM Vince: if i want to do a simple operation like resizing a video
12:18:03 AM Vince: that five second task is already doubled in time because of hte delay among hte network
12:18:11 AM kaffinekraze777: aahhh
12:18:12 AM Vince: if i wanted to render an HD video
12:18:20 AM Vince: then it would have the ETA cut in half
12:18:23 AM Vince: because of the processing
12:18:25 AM Vince: but otherwise yeah
12:18:32 AM Vince: that would be actually increasing the processing time
12:18:43 AM kaffinekraze777: yeah, this is true
12:18:52 AM kaffinekraze777: hmm
12:19:22 AM kaffinekraze777: would you want the 3 comps networked to eachother?
12:19:23 AM Vince: actually an even easier ad-hoc solution would be a small client software anda manager software
12:19:31 AM Vince: and the command prompt controls everything
12:19:41 AM kaffinekraze777: yeah, that would work
12:19:43 AM Vince: the GUI of the manager would translate into command prompt code
12:19:53 AM Vince: that way that eliminates the GUi of the other comptuers
12:19:57 AM Vince: making it faster
12:19:58 AM Vince: hm…
12:20:02 AM kaffinekraze777: well
12:20:15 AM kaffinekraze777: while GUIs take up some power
12:20:29 AM kaffinekraze777: i dont think its the main problem
12:20:54 AM kaffinekraze777: basically you want something that’ll hand off tasks to available comps right?
12:21:03 AM Vince: right
12:21:10 AM Vince: because i multitask a lot
12:21:13 AM Vince: and i was just thinking
12:21:22 AM Vince: i am forcing what regularly three people and three computers do
12:21:23 AM Vince: wait
12:21:28 AM Vince: why can’t i use three comptuers at once
12:21:33 AM Vince: with a network command
12:21:46 AM Vince: the main issue logically with that view
12:21:52 AM Vince: is three mice, three interfaces
12:22:04 AM Vince: then i thought
12:22:28 AM Vince: what if i use one mouse to control all three computers and have F command keys toggle monitors
12:22:33 AM Vince: then i thought
12:22:41 AM Vince: why not a single interface if all the computers are the same
12:22:58 AM kaffinekraze777: oh man, what are those called…
12:23:10 AM Vince: clusters
12:23:17 AM kaffinekraze777: theres an item which basically lets you hook up comps to a single interface
12:23:21 AM kaffinekraze777: i guess?
12:23:26 AM Vince: oh yeah i was on that step
12:23:33 AM kaffinekraze777: all you have to do is hit buttons
12:23:44 AM Vince: but then i pushed it forward with the thought, ‘why do i need to even babysit multiple computers!
12:23:56 AM Vince: because then i’d have to deconfigure and unhook up all thecomputers
12:23:57 AM Vince: when i’m done
12:24:04 AM Vince: i want to empower myself with this ability
12:24:08 AM Vince: over a regular network of computers
12:24:12 AM Vince: through the network
12:24:16 AM Vince: tbecause if that were the case
12:24:23 AM Vince: any of the computers is as strong as all of the comptuers
12:24:28 AM Vince: and they are anywhere
ETA Five Days
07-17-2008It’s five days until I leave for the Philippines. I can’t believe my summer blew by so quickly. I’m going to miss all my friends who are going off to different colleges. I feel so unprepared. I haven’t signed up for classes, nor do I really know what to sign up for. I have a plan and everything but getting it working will be another story indeed. I have my driver’s permit, but not my license yet. It’s funny because I’ll be getting my Philippine Driver’s License before my american one. To think I almost moved to the Philippines for college. Well, U.P. would have been cool I suppose. But then getting a job back here would have been difficult.
I now realize how big a geek I am. Over the last month I’ve been doing pretty much nothing except hang out in my own room. I purchased a very expensive new computer, an Apple iMac (the nicer 20″). I have spent most of my conscious moments on it, talking to friends, editing photos, playing video games, and downloading a ridiculous amount of apps for Mac OS X for specific and odd things. The robot voice still creeps me out but I keep it announcing the time every hour because it’s cool.
I have so much stuff to pack. I haven’t packed any clothes, gadgets, or anything. I’ll probably bring home the Nintendo Wii because that’s always fun with cousins. I borrowed a nice camera from my dad, a Nikon Coolpix 8400. It’s quite wide but the resolution is much better than my dinky pocket camera. I will just have to worry about the effects from wide. I can’t take pictures from the angles I used to. We’ll see what I can do. I got a program for my Mac called Apple Aperture 2.0, an amazing image editing program. It’s hard to believe that I barely open Photoshop anymore (for images at least).
Wow, my first blog post in quite a while. I am starving. I better go eat breakfast / lunch / half of dinner. My body clock may be messed up but my stomach sure won’t let me cheat it of timely meals.
